Several studies pertaining to male impotence, have confirmed the link between smoking and difficulties in having an erection.

“Nicotine present in cigarettes, is a vasoconstrictor, meaning it tightens blood vessels and restricts blood flow and since a man’s erection depends on blood flow, smoking affects erections” explains Dr Watsa, “Sperm count too decreases”.

Age is not a factor, with young guys as prone to developing erectile disorder due to cigarettes, as are middle-aged or even older men. This is not to say that smoking is the only cause for male impotence, but among others such as hypertension, stress, diabetes, smoking is a definitive major contributing cause.

The research showed that 40 percent of men affected by impotence were smokers. This condition affects roughly 1 in 10 men between the ages of 21 and 75.

Hair loss is a part of nature, something that everyone experiences on an ongoing basis. So here are some causes of hair fall:

Stress: Stress is one the triggers for hair fall. This is because of the condition called as Alopecia, is caused due to stress, where the white blood cells start attacking the hair follicles that causes them to fall off within few weeks. This starts with a patch and eventually increases to the entire scalp unless the stress factor is reduced.

Illness: A long term illness will take a toll on your body and can trigger hair loss. In fact, 3 months after a major surgery or illness, you experience hair loss as many hair follicles or roots go in the resting phase together and then fall off. This type of hair loss corrects itself if you return back to good health and good Hair care.

Stress has an important role to play in getting you that belly. A study by researchers in Yale University, found that the stress hormone cortisol had a greater effect on women with excess belly fat but who were otherwise lean than those who had more fat deposition on their hips. Exposure to stress also may lead to fat deposition in their abdominal area.

Another reason why Stress is bad for you, is Cortisol affects the distribution of fat around the internal organs, too much of fat around the organs leads to insulin resistance (which increases your chance of being a diabetic and having obesity), reduced kidney function, suppressed immune function (making you fall sick often) and low secretion of growth hormone (which regulates muscle growth).

Foods to avoid: Foods like cabbage, broccoli, sweet potato, sprouts, cauliflower, spinach, soya beans are bad for those with thyroid disorders, as they interfere with the thyroid functioning. Simple carbohydrates like potato, pasta, biscuits, artificial sweeteners, alcohol, processed foods and sugary foods should be avoided as they lead to weight gain.

Coffee: Caffeinated drinks, coffee, sodas should be avoided by those suffering from hypothyroidism as they stimulate the metabolism worsening the thyroid symptoms. Also avoid alcohol which worsens the symptoms.

Stress: In order to help your thyroid gland you need to learn to relax and learn some de-stressing techniques. Deep breathing exercises, daily meditation and any relaxing activity should be incorporated in your day.

It may seem next to impossible to find time to relieve stress at work, but a few well-spent minutes can dramatically increase your productivity, enjoyment and health.

A simple No will suffice!

Many employees are afraid to say no, which results in them doing favors for others which translates to extra work or additional responsibility without enough returns i.e. appreciation or even a plain ‘thanks’ in some cases.

Saying No helps you prioritize your work and fulfill your given responsibility, but more than anything it helps you avoid over committing yourself and it also reduces your stress.

Make Lists

Listing works wonders! Having a written list of tasks to be completed helps one to avoid distractions, be aware of their goals and deadlines for the day and just generally avoid the stress of last minute work and tight deadlines!

While these are some of the important tips to help you avoid stress at work, other relevant tips could be staying positive in your mind and speech, ‘tuning off’ work once you leave for home, practicing deep breathing techniques when under stress and so on.

Even though the causes for stress may be many, you can beat stress at work easily with a few simple solutions for the same:

Talk to communicate

Talking things out makes life easier, be it at home or work. Talk to your colleagues, boss or other superiors if anything is troubling or causing you stress. Talking helps to get out matters in the open, which allows for discussion and a solution to the problem and thereby your stress!

Avoid Procrastination

Being bogged down with additional responsibilities is an inevitability in this corporate era, however planning ahead and avoiding procrastination will help you meet the deadlines, no matter how close they seem. Plus procrastination also has the ability to set you back when it comes to work, making it a factor to avoid if you are looking to cut down on your stress.

If you are stressed out, you are not as productive when it comes to performing your job duties and task. Stress can cause you to become sick, which leads to time off. Here are a number of factors that can cause stress at workplace:

Lack of feedback

Feedback be, it in the form of appreciation or constructive criticism is important, as it helps one to gage their performance and know their strengths from their weaknesses. Feedback is very important in terms of letting the individual know in which areas he is going wrong, where he has done well, where he needs to improve and so on.

A lack of the same can make the worker confused, whether he is doing things right or wrong! It can also make him feel undervalued in the organization, as his work is not warranting any feedback from his superiors.

Lack of Co-operation

Lack of co-operation at the workplace is one of the major reasons that lead to stress and discontent amongst employees. Co-operation is important as it helps share the work load and helps build better interpersonal relationships amongst employees which serves well to increase productivity and fosters a positive environment at the workplace.

A lack of co-operation however increases work load, holds up simple tasks and generally affects the final output causing a lot of undue stress.

Stress in the workplace can hurt your career, negatively affect your company, and even take a serious toll on your health. Workplace stress hinders performance and productivity and makes you and possibly those around you miserable. So here are some causes of stress in the workplace:

Ever increasing responsibilities

Volunteering to take on new responsibilities is another way to learn more on the job. While one cannot disagree with this thought, you have to spare a thought for those who don’t volunteer, yet are bogged down with more and more responsibilities.

Owning up to one’s responsibilities is a wonderful way of ensuring that work gets completed, but if you have too many responsibilities, then getting all the work completed within the stipulated time line can lead to stress, a lot of stress!

Lack of communication

Communication is one of the major factors at play in the workplace. Most often people let their grievances, complaints, needs and concerns go un-aired, preferring to keep them to themselves.
