As the saying goes, “A cluttered desk is a sign of a cluttered mind.” It doesn’t have to be that way. Keeping your desk tidy, whether at work or home, can keep your work more organized and efficient. So here sre some ways to maintain your desk:

Minimize the clutter: Piles of files, pens strewn everywhere, cell phone ringing underneath the mess- if this how your desk looks on a regular day, this is for you. Having unnecessary things around creates dust piles, gives your desk a messy look and most of all clutters your mind! A clean clutter free desk not only reduces stress but also leads to an uncluttered mind which helps you perform better.

Use drawers: Using drawers will not only help in keeping your desk clean but also save your time in finding the files when required. Unwanted piles of papers and file at the corner of your desk attract lot of dust and bacteria making your desk untidy. Storing unwanted files and documents will not only give you make your desk look cleaner but will also minimize the chances of a bacterial hideout causing various illness.

Wash Hands: Wash your hands after regular intervals as much as you can to minimize the spread of bacteria. Make sure when you eat at your desk, start working again only after washing your hands. Also don’t share your hand towel with others as this will only help in passing germs. You can also use hand sanitizers to keep the bacteria at bay.

Coconut water has been known for its refreshing properties since ages. Come summer time and you will find people in the tropical countries drinking the water from a young coconut. Let us now explore the health benefits of coconut water in detail.

Cytokinins: Coconut water is one of the richest natural sources of Cytokinins. Research has found that a diet rich in Cytokinins can have an anti-ageing effect on our body and can help delay the onset of degenerative diseases and age related diseases too! Topical application of the white skin of coconut is known to provide nutritious benefits to our skin preventing it from sagging and losing its elasticity, it also helps in cellular regeneration.

Helps Diabetics: Coconut Water is recommended for diabetics as it contains a very low amount of natural sugars and also because it improves blood circulation which is found to be lacking in diabetics. Coconut water is also known to contain certain amino acids and dietary fibers which help to improve insulin sensitivity thereby greatly benefitting diabetics.

Helps protect against heart diseases: Coconut water contains potassium and Magnesium amongst other minerals that helps reduce high blood pressure which is a major reason for heart attacks! Drinking coconut water also helps to prevent plaque formation in the arteries, a condition known as atherosclerosis which can cause many heart diseases. It also improves blood circulation that reduces the chances of you suffering from stroke.

Travelling involves a lot of use of the feet, and if your feet aren’t comfortable, travelling can become quite stressful. To avoid this pain and discomfort, invest in a pair of good comfortable shoes that will keep your feet comfortable and happy as you travel, letting you concentrate on your work!

If being on foot is a major part of your travelling, a good pair of sports shoes should do the trick. Women are always found walking around in pencil heels, it would be a good idea to discard these and opt for flats or canvas sandals. Uncomfortable shoes can also cause a number of painful conditions in your feet such as Achilles tendon, corns, calluses, athlete’s foot etc.

Travelling in the city is bound to plaster dirt, pollution, dust along with the various free radicals present in the air. All of these can wreak havoc on your skin leading to acne, blemishes, dry or rough skin, greasy skin etc. To counter this, it is advisable to carry a face wash that is suitable to your skin type with you at all times, when you travel.

Washing of the face at regular intervals ensures that your skin pores do not get clogged and are free to breathe, this lone factor will ensure that travelling does not cause much harm to your skin. Also while washing your face, do remember to wash with warm followed by cold water, if available.

Cardio exercise strengthens the individual’s heart and lungs by increasing the heart beat rate by aiming to achieve the THR. Once the body achieves THR it forces the heart to pump more blood to cope with the improved blood circulation, this result in the heart being exercised; a regular cardio regime’s main aim is to strengthen the heart muscles, making the heart healthy in the process. A healthy heart automatically translates to a drop in blood pressure and bad cholesterol levels – LDL along with an increase in good cholesterol levels –HDL.

Similarly Cardio exercises with their steady and repeated actions account for an increased oxygen intake due to a rise in the heart rate. This increased oxygen intake helps expand your lungs, exercising them in the process and improving their endurance too.

Cardio succeeds in improving fitness levels and reducing weight mainly due to its two salient features:

Moderate Intensity

One of the defining characteristic of Cardio exercise is the demand for moderate intensity. To derive the most out of cardio exercises one needs to perform them with moderate intensity, which gradually increases the heart rate and warms up the body, indicating an improved blood circulation.

To calculate one’s maximum efficiency or maximum heat rate, one needs to subtract their age from 226 for women and 220 for men.

For e.g. If your age is 22 years and you are a female, you would subtract 22 from 226 which comes up to 204 heart beats, which is your maximum heart rate. While cardio suggests a moderate intensity equaling 50-70 % of your maximum efficiency, you should multiply 0.5 or 0.7 with your 204 i.e. your maximum heart rate. The answer will be the ideal heart rate you should aspire to reach during your work outs, 142 heart beats in this case!

30 Minute flexible time frame

Another salient feature that makes cardio beneficial is the 30 minute flexible time frame. These flexibility offered by cardio, takes off the pressure of completing the required work out in one go, you can exercise for 15 minutes in the morning and complete the remaining 15 minutes in the evening or afternoons, achieving the same effects that a work out completed in one go would have bought!

If you have an Aloe-vera plant at home, chip off one leaf of the plant and keep it in the refrigerator. After an hour in the fridge, peel the outer layer of the leaf and squeeze out the gel and apply directly on your skin. You can alternately also buy a gel that contains natural aloe extracts and apply to your skin.
