How to ensure that your parents remain happy and healthy?
What did you the last time when you spotted your father smoking or your mother ignoring a constant back-ache? Nothing, right! All that we are implying here is when you ignore your parent’s unhealthy habits which could lead to potential health issues; it is as good as ignoring them.
- Smoking
Smoking is another unhealthy habit that you need to convince your parents to drop. As smoking in the advanced ages, increases the likelihood of your parent developing a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) such as chronic bronchitis or emphysema. Furthermore COPD is known to lead to dementia in the elderly, both of these factors work towards reducing their life expectancy by 10-20 years!
- Drinking
While there is no reason to worry if your parent is drinking in moderation, there is ample reason to worry if the drinking goes beyond the normal 2 glasses per day. Drinking alcohol is considered normal as long as it is in moderation, but excessive regular drinking at their age can result in incontinence and gastro intestinal problems not to mention liver cirrhosis which is a very common result of excessive alcohol intake. Moreover excessive intake of Alcohol at an advanced age increases the chances of your parent suffering from a stroke, heart problems and hypertension.
