Simple and quick additions and changes to your diet will take you on the right path to a longer life and a contented heart.

  • Whole Grains

Whole grains can be beneficial to your heart in ways in which processed grains like white flour simply can’t. Whole grains provide an excellent source of fiber and contain a variety of vitamins and minerals that help to keep your heart healthy. Certain types of dietary fiber also can help reduce blood cholesterol levels and may lower the overall risk of heart disease.

  • Oats

Oats are nourishing whole grains and a great source of vitamins, minerals, and cholesterol-lowering fiber, called beta glucan that helps reduce total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) levels. A diet high in oats can reduce the risk for heart disease.

  • Red wine

Red wine contains a powerful antioxidant that has been shown to be good for your heart. Studies show that only 4 to 8 ounces of red wine is needed each day. For women (and men over age 65), the recommendation is no more than one glass, or 5 ounces, of wine daily. For men under age 65, it’s no more than two glasses, or 10 ounces, daily. Be sure, to enjoy red wine in moderation.
