Can your genes alone make you look fat?
Heredity has always been suspected of playing a role in weight gain. When weight studies were performed among families, they showed a suspicious trend of obesity, especially during middle age. About a decade ago, a gene was discovered that plays an important part in regulating weight, but it’s not the only reason of people being overweight. Other reasons are:
- Lack of sleep also causes the release of Ghrelin, the hunger hormone which builds up an appetite which in turn increases our weight!
- Stress hormone called Cortisol causes a marked increase in our appetites and as a result we eat more and thus the subsequent gain in weight!
- Prescribed drugs for diabetes and blood pressure especially are known to increase the weight, though the exact reasons are yet to be known.
