How do I build a stronger bond with my family?
We all need to learn the importance of the relationships with our families. More often than not we take our families for granted and do not treat each other with respect, yet the first people that we expect to be there in a time of need is your family. In order for those around you to feel appreciated you must treat them with respect and show them that they are important to you. Some things you can do to make your bonding strong are:
- Reserve time for the Family: Reserving time for your family does not mean being physically present but mentally absent.
- Share and communicate well: Many parents try to shield their children from unpleasant realities like illness, financial loss and death. But children can often end up feeling left out if they are old enough to understand what is going on, but are not told the truth about family worries.
- Make Dinner time a family affair: No matter how busy one is, the dinner table is a welcome for a family get-together. Even if it is not feasible all the time, once or twice a week can make a lot of difference as mealtime is often the only time when families can engage in stimulating conversations.
- Stories in real time: It’s great to hear stories about those we know like how mum and dad met or how grandpa started his business. This keeps the “emotional health” of a family intact!
